Capital Monitor's Calendar and Diary service provides subscribers with a free, quick and easy reference point to what is happening in the Federal Parliament. It also provides details on when any Australian (Federal, State or Territory) Parliament is sitting, and other major public events around Australia.
Our Calendar and Diary service is designed to be simple and intuitive, but the following brief notes might help.
Calendar or Diary
Basically, what one would enter on a Calendar or into a Diary differs. Capital Monitor will use the same approach. If it is a significant event for any particular date, it will be listed on the Calendar and in the Diary (eg, Federal Budget). If the event will not impact on how the year or month affects everyone, then it will be listed only in the Diary.
Our main focus will be on the Federal Parliament and Government. However, we will be entering data for major events in the State Parliaments (eg, Budgets, General Elections, major reports, etc). In addition, we expect to include other events such as press conferences, major announcements, AGM's, speeches, launches, publication release dates, etc. These will help your planning.
Using Calendar
Only subscribers to Capital Monitor's services can access this service.
You can see Capital Monitor's Calendar by clicking on the Calendar button on the left-hand side of your Capital Monitor screen. The Calendar will display the current month at a view. If you wish to see other months, then just use the month/year selection tool at the top of the Calendar screen. Sittings of the various Australian State, Territory and the Federal Parliament are highlighted on each date. Major events are listed on any day.
To see the Diary behind the Calendar for any particular day, click on the date for that day. To save you time, the date will only be highlighted as a hyperlink if there are diary entries for that date. No highlighting means no diary entries for that date.
Using Diary
To see that Diary entry for any particular day, click on that date in the Calendar. Remember: if the date is not highlighted in the Calendar, the Diary will have no entries for that day.
The Diary will also show if any Australian Parliament is scheduled to be sitting for that day. If an event is scheduled without a time, or is scheduled to run all day, then the time is shown as "today" and these listings will be displayed first.
When you are in the Diary, and you want to see the Diary for other days that month, then just click on that date on the top left of the Diary screen. To see the Diary for days in other months you will need to go via the Calendar.
Diary Alerts
Have the day's events e-mailed to you each morning (8.30am AEST), and another which will carry any updates made during the day at lunchtime (1.45pm AEST). On Friday afternoon (12.30pm AEST), get the Weekly Diary looking at the week ahead. This will keep you posted on what is happening. And it is free for subscribers to Capital Monitor.
If you would like the daily or weekly Diary alerts e-mailed to you, subscribers just click on the My Preferences link on our index menu, tick the appropriate boxes, press the CHANGE PREFERENCES button just below, and the next Diary alert will be e-mailed to you. Free.
You will receive an e-mail each morning (8.30am AEST) with the day's events listed, and another will be sent at 1.45pm AEST (carrying any updates made during the morning). On Friday afternoon (at 12.30pmAEST), another e-mail can be sent to you listing all the events for the coming week, allowing you to be plan ahead for anything that might be important. You can select to receive one or both of these e-mails. The service is free for subscribers.
The morning e-mail alert carries a lot of new material which is advised during the night and these will be entered on to our systems early that morning. The lunchtime alert e-mail is important as a number of events (particularly press conferences) are scheduled at short notice in Canberra, particularly when Parliament is sitting. That lunchtime alert will list all the new events scheduled together with the old.
The Diary and Calendar are updated at all times during each business day. If you need to you can just have the day's diary displaying on your screen and just click reload or refresh to have the page display the latest information. (When you do this you might see that some are not displayed in chronological order. That is just a timing issue: we will have just entered the data, and it has yet to be sorted. Another refresh will probably show that has been done.)
To receive these alerts (which are included in your subscription), subscribers can click here.
Search
And you can search the Calendar and Diary for any topic you like. Search for what has happened, and what is planned to happen. See what has happened (since the Diary was started), and what Capital Monitor has entered in the Diary in the future.
Using the Diary Quick search screen subscribers can specify dates or date ranges. Clicking on any result will display the Diary for that date, listing all events scheduled for that day.
This will allow you to quickly find listing that is important to you. Or quickly get the date of something that happened since the diary service commenced.
To get the Diary Quick Search screen, just click on that link on Capital Monitor's website index menu. The Calendar/Diary service is free for subscribers - there is no charge for using search or downloading results or subscribing to the Diary e-mail alert service.
Quick tip: You can use the words 'today', 'tomorrow' or 'yesterday' instead of dates (ie '25 dec 2001') in the After: or Before: boxes when searching.
